Scholarship Description: A central theme in the research conducted at the Department of Animal Ecology and Ecophysiology (Faculty of Science, Radboud University Nijmegen) is life-history strategies of aquatic ectotherms, with particular emphasis on how temperature and oxygen interact to shape the niche of a species. An important goal is to develop fundamental knowledge on the mechanisms underlying the habitat requirements of species. Such mechanistic understanding can subsequently inform ecosystem management and restoration and thereby increase the effectiveness of efforts to improve the quality of species’ habitats.
