WICKED WORLD! Yoruba Woman Scalds Step Son With Hot Water

The increasing rate of home abuse, wife battery, especially child molestation, maltreating, and abuse now is very alarming and calls for serious and quick intervention by all. I got this story from a friend and though it’s worth sharing.

Ola in a critical condition as I write is under a serious intensive care in a hospital around Igando area of Lagos. His step-mum who works with the Lagos Internal Revenue Service took laws into and hands and punished him for beating her little daughter by pouring hot water on him while asleep. Click to read full story and see more terrible pics….. sad

“The argument that led to the sad incident started when my step-mum saw me beat my sister” recalls Ola, she got very angry and wanted to harm me back in anger, she reached for and did all she could physically, I tried to defend myself but she overpowered me. She got more furious after my father and some neighbors tried to stop her, and she started scattering the house and even broke bottles. My uncle who also lives around was able to drag her away from the house, and she slept over at his’ that night. I was still sleeping on my bed the next morning, when I she walked into my room and bathed me with hot water; I staggered to the living room and saw my father and uncle. That was the last I remembered before I passed out and woke at the hospital

Lagos drenched by overnight rainfall

 Source: http://www.channelstv.com/home/2012/06/28/overnight-downpour-causes-flood-and-traffic-gridlock-in-lagos/
Residents in Lagos on Thursday morning witnessed an unusual heavy downpour owing to the several hours it lasted that started on Wednesday night, causing massive floods in many parts of the city
Sections of Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway were cut off on both sides by the flood, leading to a gridlock.
Many road users were forced to  return home or seek alternative routes while others remained at the spot, waiting for the flood to abate.
Seven-day rainfall
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) recently warned that residents in Lagos would soon experience a seven-day rainfall.
Abayomi Oyegoke of NIMET Central Forecast Unit, Oshodi, Lagos had said that a total of 570 mm of rainfall had been recorded in Lagos State between January and June.
He explained that the rains being experienced in state were the beginning of a seven-day rainfall.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that workers were stranded at bus-stops while others reported late at their offices because of the rain.
Many vehicles were trapped in the flood, causing the traffic to snarl up just as fares went up.
NAN also reported that most of the drains were blocked by refuse resulting in massive flooding of the roads.
At Iyana-Ipaja, the flooding was severe between Mosalashi Bus Stop and Egbeda,  while the situation was also serious in Surulere, Ijesha, Ebute Meta, Lagos Island, Aboru, Ikeja, Ketu-Mile 12, Lekki-Ajah and the Lagos-Ikorodu Expressway.
On the Island, many residents were seen moving out their personal effects from homes on the Adeniji –Adele, Oyebanji and Freeman streets.
A civil servant, Mr Biola Ajose told NAN that several houses at Abesan, a Lagos suburb, were either flooded or submerged, adding that vehicular and human movements were also impeded.
“Vehicles and even pedestrians could not move as the roads and the drains were blocked. A few motorists, who dared to drive through the flood, were slowed down.
Commercial buses and a few motorcyclists (okada) took advantage of the situation to increase fares,” he said.
A resident of Surulere, Mrs Nkiru Obiechina, said the early rain prevented her from going to her shop at Oshodi.
“Although, we have prayed for the rain and we thank God for it,  it has disrupted socio-economic activities as it started before we woke up.
“Some sections of Lagos roads are usually impassable once it rains except the expressways. It is unfortunate that transporters seized the opportunity to hike fares,” she told NAN.
A housewife at Ebute Meta on the mainland lamented that the rain destroyed property in several houses in the area.
A motorist, who simply gave his name as Obinna, said he spent more than three hours in the traffic on the Lekki-Epe Expressway because of the downpour.
“I was trapped in the traffic as early as 8 a.m. and I did not get to my office until 11 a.m.,” he said.
Also, motorists, who plied Orile-Iganmu-Mile 2 Expressway, complained that the ongoing construction work on the road slowed down traffic lasting several hours.
“We usually use three lanes but with the rainfall, the road was narrowed down to just one lane causing serious traffic jam.
“We had to take a detour through Apapa to Ijora to link the mainland,” said Joseph Etuks, a banker.
NAN recalls that experts had warned that there would be more rainfall in 2011 than in the previous years.
Also, the Lagos State government had in May advised residents in flood-prone areas particularly in Agiliti and Agboyi-Ketu to relocate before the rains.

Touchdown! Chinese Space Capsule With 3 Astronauts Returns to Earth By SPACE.com Staff | SPACE.com – 11 hrs ago

This story was updated at 11:50 p.m. ET.
Three Chinese astronauts returned to Earth Thursday (June 28) after 13 days in space on a historic mission that made their country only the third nation ever to successfully dock a manned spacecraft to another in orbit.
China's Shenzhou 9 space capsule landed at about10 p.m. EDT (10 a.m. Friday, June 29 Beijing time) in Inner Mongolia, an autonomous region of the People's Republic of China. To prepare for their journey home, the space crew — which included China's first female astronaut Liu Yang — separated the Shenzhou 9 capsule its target, the Tiangong 1 prototype space module, on Wednesday (June 27).
Their landing was broadcast live on China's state-run CCTV television network, showing the capsule streaking through the atmosphere like a meteor, deploying its main parachute, then making the final landing and rolling over on its side in a rough touchdown.
"We fulfilled the first manned manual docking," mission commander Jing Haipeng told CCTV reporters after exiting the Shenzhou 9 capsule. His comments in Chinese were translated into English by CCTV. "For the country and people all across the country, thank you for your concerns."  [Photos of China's Shenzhou 9 Mission]
Jing and crewmates Liu Yang and Liu Wang appeared to be in good health after their space mission. The trio wore broad smiles and waved to cameras after leaving their spacecraft, but did sit in reclined chairs to help ease their adaptation back to Earth's gravity after nearly two weeks in weightlessness.
Shortly after the landing, China's Premier Wen Jiabao proclaimed the Shenzhou 9 mission a complete success.
"This manned docking mission of Tiangong 1 and Shenzhou 9 marks a large milestone, a major breakthrough for China to master the space docking technology," Wen said while reading a statement. "And also, it marks a decisive step forward on China's second step on its space strategy."
China's big space leap
China's Shenzhou 9 mission, which included successful displays of manual and automatic dockings, represented an important leap forward for China's space program. In addition to being China's longest space mission to date, it also tested technology vital for the country's goal of building space station in orbit by the year 2020.
"Chinese astronauts have their own home in space now," Jing told China's President Hu Jintao on Tuesday (June 26) during a special call according to the state-run Xinhua news agency. "We are proud of our country!"
And while the orbital linkups are important technological achievements for China, the mission also carried a wider social impact because it included the country's first female astronaut: the 33-year-old Liu Yang.
"It was like a home in Tiangong, and I feel very happy and proud of my country," Liu Yang told reporters after landing.
Jing, the commander, is China's first veteran astronaut to fly in space twice. The third crewmember, Liu Wang, served as the Shenzhou 9 docking pilot.
"It feels really good to feel the ground and to be back home," Liu Wang said.
The Shenzhou 9 mission launched into orbit on June 16 and performed China's first manned space rendezvous, after the spacecraft robotically docked to Tiangong 1 on June 18. Several days later, on June 24, the astronauts backed away from the orbiting module and parked their Shenzhou 9 spacecraft once more, demonstrating manual control over the procedure as well.
"This work was done by all space pioneers and staff and we'll remember you. It will be written in history," Wen said.
China's space station goal
The successful linkups made China only the third country, after the United States and Russia, to accomplish manned dockings in orbit.
The Shenzhou 9 mission, as well as experiments performed aboard Tiangong 1 throughout the flight, tested technologies that will help China fulfill its goal of building a 60-ton space station in orbit by 2020. [How China's Space Station Will Work (Infographic)]
"The data will help us improve technologies for astronauts' future, long-term stays in a space station," said Chen Shanguang, chief commander of the mission's astronaut system, according to Xinhua.
China is not a member nation of the $100 billion International Space Station in low-Earth orbit, a roughly 430-ton orbiting outpost that is jointly operated by more than a dozen countries.
But Chinese officials have outlined an ambitious space program for the nation, which includes collecting samples from the moon and robotically returning them to Earth before landing astronauts on the lunar surface.
The Shenzhou 9 mission is China's fourth manned spaceflight. Previous expeditions were launched in 2003, 2005 and 2008.
The Tiangong 1 test module was launched into orbit in September 2011. In November, a robotic spacecraft, called Shenzhou 8, completed the country's first unmanned space docking. According to Chinese officials, Tiangong 1 has performed well, and could play host to another crew in the near future.
"Based on current conditions, the service of Tiangong 1 can be extended," said He Yu, chief commander of the Shenzhou 9 spacecraft, reported Xinhua. "It has consumed less than one-fourth of its fuel and no back-up systems have been used."
Depending on its condition, the module could remain in orbit as China continues its space station construction efforts.
"If Tiangong 1 was in perfect shape, it could work side by side with Tiangong 2, which will be launched in the future," He said.

The 15 Hottest American Cities of the Future by Jennifer Polland | Business Insider – 21 hours ago

Although it's hard to predict what the future will hold, we've come up with a list of 15 cities that we think will be hot in 20 years.

To compile this list we looked at job growth, population growth and demographics, affordability, livability, and the health and well being of the residents.

We also considered how the city is innovating in terms of technology, sustainability, culture, and more. And we thought about how "cool" the city is--an important factor in attracting the young, creative types who will make the city hot.

For years, Brooklyn took a backseat to its towering neighbor, Manhattan--but no longer.

Today, Brooklyn is one of the fastest growing cities with a population of about 2.5 million, making it the most populous borough in New York and independently one of the largest cities in the US.

This hipster-friendly borough attracts young chefs, artists, entrepreneurs, families, and more, who have opened hip farm-to-table restaurants, cool art galleries and boutiques, and hipster markets like the Brooklyn Flea and Dekalb Market. With amazing cultural venues like the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) and the Brooklyn Museum, and the addition of the Barclays Center, NYC’s newest sports and entertainment venue, the area is bound to continue to develop and gentrify.

2) Seattle, WA, will be the best place to be a young professional

Seattle gained momentum back in the ‘90s when Kurt Cobain started the grunge trend and a little coffee shop called Starbucks began to gain traction.

Today the city continues to attract young people and was recently ranked the best place for young professionals to thrive, according to mobile events company timeRAZOR, thanks to its high number of bars and restaurants (numbering over 6,000) and its high median income (the average college graduate there earns $53,185 annually).

Seattle was also ranked one of the 10 Cities with the Fastest Growing Wages in America. As the Waltons continue to invest and Wal-mart continues to thrive, Bentonville will become a top city.

churchstreetmarketplace via Flickr11) Burlington, VT, will continue to trail blaze as a sustainable city

This laid-back city epitomizes small-town charm, but it’s also emerging as a leader in sustainability.

Much of the food consumed in town come from local farms or from the Intervale Center, a nonprofit organization that cultivates 350 acres of land to provide food for the city residents.

This environmentally-friendly city has turned its focus on sustainability into a form of economic self-reliance--a model which will become increasingly more important in the years ahead.

Flickr/Trevino12) Mountain View, CA, will continue to lead as a tech city

Home to major tech companies Google, Microsoft, LinkedIn, Mozilla, and more, Mountain View is arguably one of the most tech-centered cities in the world.

The city was also recently ranked One of the Fastest Growing Job Markets in the US.

Robert Johnson/Business Insider15) Williston, ND, will make oil money hand over fist

North Dakota is experiencing an oil boom, which could make Williston and the nearby towns one of the largest sources of petroleum in the country--and that means unprecedented wealth in the years ahead.

The population has exploded as people flock there in droves to seek their fortunes, and although the city is undertaking a building frenzy, it hasn’t been able to keep up with the influx of wannabe oil workers.

This oil boom is both a blessing and a curse as it has meant overcrowding, traffic, and a housing shortage, but Williston is frantically trying to keep up and will be an area to watch.

Five Valuable College Degrees By Tony Moton

Want to earn a college degree with value? Check out these five bachelor's degree programs.

It's no secret: A college education can cost big bucks.
So before you go back to school for a bachelor's degree, it's only natural - and wise - to investigate whether your educational investment has the potential to pay you back. In other words, what's its potential value?
"The rule of thumb is that someone with a bachelor's degree makes about a million dollars more over their career than someone who doesn't," says Cheri Butler, associate director of the career center at the University of Texas at Arlington.
In fact, according to a 2011 Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce report titled "The College Payoff: Education, Occupations, and Lifetime Earnings," a worker with a bachelor's degree generally earns an average of $2.3 million over a lifetime - a significant amount more when compared to someone with only a high school diploma, who generally earns an average of $1.3 million over a lifetime.
Since the possibility of earning an extra million bucks sounds pretty nice, we looked through the National Association of Colleges and Employers' (NACE) April 2012 "Salary Survey" report to pinpoint five bachelor's degree level areas of study that are among the highest paying for college graduates.
Keep reading to learn more.

Area of Study #1: Business

Overall Median Starting Salary: $47,748*

From selling newly developed products to marketing time-tested products in new ways, business people are always looking for a competitive edge when it comes to winning over consumers. So, if you have a competitive spirit, earning a bachelor's degree in the business field could offer a potential return on investment.
For one thing, the numbers appear to be adding up just right for graduates with a bachelor's in economics. With the median starting salary for 2012 economics grads at $54,800 (up 5.6 percent from 2011), it's one of the top-paying majors in the business sector, according to NACE's "Salary Survey."
Starting Salaries for various Business Majors include:*
- Finance: $49,700
- Accounting: $47,800
- International Business: $31,200
Click to Find the Right Business Administration Program.
Potential Value: "In business, you have to take in a lot of information, digest it, and make sound decisions," says Butler, who adds that business majors get value from being taught how to identify "the next big thing."
"But it's not just in business; it's in economics and finance, too. A finance program shows you how to make predictions and forecasts and how to make sense out of them."

Area of Study #2: Communications

Overall Median Starting Salary: $40,022*

Whether you aspire to write a popular blog or head up the corporate communications division at a Fortune 500 company, being able to successfully deliver ideas to an audience is crucial.
During a bachelor's in communications program, you might learn how to communicate in various mediums, which is likely a valuable skill in today's high-tech, information-driven world, says Paul Timmins, career services director in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota.
How valuable? The $40,022 overall median starting salary for 2012 communications grads represented a 3.8 percent increase from 2011, according to the "Salary Survey."
Starting Salaries for various Communications Majors include:*
- Advertising: $44,700
- Communications: $39,400
- Journalism: $37,500
Click to Find the Right Communications Program.
Potential Value: "Communications is one of the top skills that we hear employers want," says Timmins. "They might need you to communicate in a variety of ways, in a small group, one-on-one, large-group setting, or in writing. It's a skill that can be applied in a lot of different places, such as sales, customer service, top management, writing, journalism, public relations, or advertising fields."

Area of Study #3: Computer Science

Overall Median Starting Salary: $56,383*

Home computers have been on the market for a number of years, and new gadgets like smartphones and tablets continue to introduce new technologies. That begs the question, who's behind all these technological advances? Tech-savvy people, that's who.
Perhaps that's the reason the NACE survey found starting salaries for graduates in the computer science field increased by 2.4 percent in the past year. That translates to a median starting salary increasing from $55,087 for 2011 graduates to $56,383 for 2012 graduates.
The "Salary Survey" also reports that employers in the information sector - the collection of businesses that produce and distribute information and develop the products that transmit and process data, such as software publishers - had the highest number of new graduate applicants, with starting salary offers of $64,400.
Starting Salaries for various Computer Science Majors include:*
- Computer Science: $58,300
- Information Sciences and Systems: $52,000
Click to Find the Right Computer Science Program.
Potential Value: "Do you know an organization that doesn't have a computer system? I don't," Butler says. "They are a fact of life, and we need people who can keep them running and make the most of those important tools. Your company is dead in the water if it doesn't use computer technology."

Area of Study #4: Health Sciences

Overall Median Starting Salary: $43,477*

Ever been interested in working in a hospital setting as a nurse? Want to learn what it takes to keep a body going strong into its twilight years? If so, a bachelor's degree in one of the health sciences could be the vehicle that helps drive you to your destination of helping others.
And check this out: the median starting salary for all health sciences graduates was almost unchanged, with a noteworthy salary of $43,477 in 2012 - less than a one percent change from the previous year, which was at $43,802, according to the "Salary Survey."
Starting Salaries for various Health Science Majors include:*
- Nursing: $48,400
- Health and Related Sciences: $36,400
Click to Find the Right Health Services Program.
Potential Value: Butler says health sciences majors could see added value in their degrees because health care workers are in great demand as the baby boom population ages.
"We are healthier and living longer, so we need assistance in maintaining a livable lifestyle," Butler says. "The 79 million boomers need a lot of infrastructure to take care of them, so there are jobs in the health care field. It's supply and demand in my opinion."

Area of Study #5: Engineering

Overall Median Starting Salary: $58,581*

Do you have natural problem-solving skills that you'd like to use on a professional level? By earning a bachelor's degree in engineering, you might be able to hone those skills, and even get some potential value from your education.
How so? Consider this: The "Salary Survey" found that engineering grads hold the bragging rights for being the highest paid of all disciplines that NACE evaluated. Engineering grads who majored in computer engineering, for example, had a median starting salary of $67,800 in 2012.
Starting Salaries for various Engineering Majors include:*
- Aerospace/Aeronautical/Astronautical Engineering: $64,200
- Civil Engineering: $55,300
- Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering: $41,800
Click to Find the Right Engineering Program.
Potential Value: Butler credits the creative aspects of the engineering field for providing value to this degree. "Engineers are the ones who create new things," Butler says. "Next year, we will be using technology that hasn't been invented yet, and engineering is at the core of that."

*Overall median starting salary figures for 2012 are taken from the National Association of Colleges and Employers' April 2012 "Salary Survey: Starting Salaries for New College Graduates." NACE Salary Survey data is produced through data taken from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Census Bureau, and a master data set developed by Job Search Intelligence.

Eleven ways to irritate your Co-workers by Jeff Haden | Inc – Tue, Jun 26, 2012 7:18 PM EDT

Business etiquette isn't just about observing the social niceties; sometimes business etiquette is simply not irritating other people unnecessarily.
Here are things that irritate me; feel free to add your own in the comments:
1. Email to say you just left a voicemail.
You called. It's urgent. She didn't answer. You had to leave a voicemail. Crap. So you turn to your computer and send an email. You say, "I just left you a voicemail... please get it as soon as you can..." She doesn't respond right away. Crap. Now you go to Twitter and send a DM. "Hey, check your email and voicemail," it says. Nothing. Crap. Maybe you should post something on her Facebook wall...?
Or maybe not.
What you don't know is that she just isn't available; an earthquake wouldn't get her out of that client meeting.
What you do know is that she'll have to sift through all the stuff you sent when she does get out.
Give people a chance to respond. Sometimes they're just as busy as you are.
And if you absolutely must email to say you left a voicemail, go ahead and explain exactly what you need in the email, and tell her she can delete the voicemail. Or vice versa.
Never create a communication chain people have to follow.
2. Pretend to be "just checking in."
You and another vendor worked together on a project for a client a couple years ago. He calls. "Hi," he says. "I just thought I'd see how you're doing."
"I'm doing great," you say. You chat for a while. Finally you say, "Hey, it's good to hear from you--what can I do for you?"
"Nothing," he replies. "I just wanted to check in."
Ah. It's almost guaranteed he'll call back a few days later, wanting something.
If you want something, don't pretend you're just checking in. Say "hi." Then get to the point. Describe what you want. Ask for what you need.
Pretending otherwise is just insulting.
We're not stupid. We know you want something. We're cool with that.
So get to it.
3. Set up an email auto-response... and then respond.
It's disconcerting to get a live response 10 minutes after an auto-response. Hmm, you think. Does that mean I'm really important? But wait, he didn't respond to that other email I sent? Does that mean...?
If you know you won't be checking in, auto-responses are fine. (Just make sure each individual only gets one--nothing is worse than serial auto-responses.)
A better approach is to tell key people ahead of time that you'll be away and how you plan to communicate during that time. Then you can respond on your own terms--and they'll understand.
Because face it--you're not fooling anyone, especially yourself: Regardless of your intentions, you will be checking in.
4. Forget "no" is the new "yes."
We're all raised to say "yes." We like to help people. We like to be supportive. We like to come through. Yes is polite. Yes doesn't create hurt feelings.
But we don't have time to say yes to anywhere close to everything... and when we have too many "yeses" on our plate we don't come through. Even if we wanted to, we can't come through. That sucks for everyone.
Most people are disappointed by no, but they understand. They're cool with it. An initial yes creates excitement, and then when yes someday turns into no, at the very least that will cause hurt feelings.
Then there are some requests we shouldn't accept, even if we do have time: Requests for introductions to certain contacts, requests for unusual favors, requests for a huge quid when there is not and will never be a pro quo...
See no as your best way to protect something incredibly precious. Time. Time to do what you need to do.
5. Forget "no" really does mean "no."
Then flip things around. Ask once. If you hear "no," and you're not in sales, don't ask again.
This is especially true in social media. According to a Robert Half survey, 39% of respondents were "not very comfortable" or "not comfortable at all" with friend or connection requests from people who manage them. The percentages were almost identical for clients, and even worse for vendors.
If employees, clients, or vendors ask to connect with you, go for it.
But if you ask, take no for an answer--or better yet, consider not asking at all.
6. Tag other people in a photo without their permission.
Yeah, you took the photo so yeah, you own the legal rights and can reproduce, distribute, and otherwise use it as you see fit, even if I'm in it. Hooray for you. That doesn't mean I like how I look in the photo... and that definitely doesn't mean I want it to be easy for other people to see it.
Always ask before you tag. Better yet, don't tag at all. All you're doing is trying to impress people by who you know anyway.
(By the way: If getting tagged really irritates you, set up an alert that notifies you whenever you've been tagged in a photo.)
7. Make someone read an entire email thread to figure out what you want.
In general, you should include the thread if it's helpful for background information, but say clearly what you want right up front.
Give the recipient the option of reading more if they want to, but never make them need to.
8. Assume what is urgent to you is urgent to the recipient.
News flash: It almost never is. To recipients, an email flagged as "high priority" only indicates that you think you are the high priority.
Forget the flags and use the subject line to get attention. Your employees won't ignore a subject line like, "I need your help: We're about to lose our client!"
9. Connect your tweets to your LinkedIn account.
This is especially true if many of your followers are also connections. Unlike ice cream, people don't like to be double-dipped.
No one wants to read about your killer lunch meeting twice.
10. Use the reply-all button.
Anything that is nice to know won't be remembered anyway. And someday, somehow, you'll email someone you shouldn't... and things will never be the same.
Instead, always add multiple recipients manually. You'll be forced to think twice before wasting someone's time and you'll also avoid, say, sending that cost estimate to a vendor that you intended for the client.
11. Use email for arguing, criticizing, giving bad news, or saying "no."
Good news? Fine, email away.
Bad news? Deliver it by phone or in person.
Of course you should apply a little judgment: If someone you don't know emails asking for a favor, it's okay to say "no" by email. But if you have some sort of relationship, or they are someone whose opinion you value, or you've ever met or talked to them before... don't deliver bad news by email.
That's just hiding behind the technology.
